From Bean to Brew: Our Portland Story
It started with a simple idea over a cup of surprisingly bad coffee in a Portland downpour. Why, in a city that prides itself on local craftsmanship, was it so hard to find a space that celebrated the entire journey of coffee—from the roaster to the cup, and offered a genuine community hub to enjoy it?
That rainy-day frustration planted the seed for Blue Bean Roasters. We weren't just dreaming of a cafe; we envisioned a sanctuary for Portland's coffee lovers, remote workers, and neighbors—a place where the rich aroma of small-batch roasting would fill the air and where every bean told a story of local passion.
Our First Milestone
In 2018, we sourced our first bags of ethically grown beans from a partner farm in the Willamette Valley and roasted them in a refurbished garage. Our "pop-up" tastings at local farmers' markets quickly grew a loyal following.
Finding Our Home
By 2020, we opened the doors to our current roastery and cafe in the heart of Portland. This space was built to be more than a coffee shop—it was designed as a community living room, complete with workspace for the city's vibrant freelancer community.
Rooted in Community
Our story is woven into Portland's. We host local artist showcases, provide meeting space for neighborhood groups, and prioritize partnerships with other Oregon producers. For us, every brew is a connection to the people and places around us.
